The Master's degree program "Political Communication" has a quantitative-empirical and communication science orientation, which is supplemented by psychological and political science perspectives.
Graduates are able to think and work on fundamental research questions and applied problems in political communication in an evidence-based and interdisciplinary manner. Furthermore, graduates deepen their knowledge in the field of political communication with a special focus on strategies of political communication, political journalism, digitalized forms of communication and psychological foundations of political thought and action.
The examination of theories and concepts of political communication allows graduates to theoretically penetrate and critically examine complex questions and problems of political communication. By engaging with innovative methods of designing and empirically analyzing political communication processes, graduates develop skills in the development of fundamental research questions and the systematic and evidence-based processing of applied problems. Graduates are able to independently apply their theoretical, methodological and empirical knowledge to a question or problem in political communication.

Interdisciplinary studies
- The Master's degree program in Political Communication has an interdisciplinary focus and combines research and teaching in communication science with approaches from political science, sociology, economics and psychology.
- The Master's course is also interdisciplinary in its approach: applications are open to students with a Bachelor's degree in communication science, sociology, political science, psychology or related disciplines.

Research experience
The curriculum comprises three compulsory modules and 30 compulsory elective modules, ten of which students must successfully complete for the Master's degree (13 modules in total). By selecting the modules, students can focus on basic scientific research or application-oriented design and evaluation of political communication processes.

The Master's degree qualifies students for an academic career and for senior management positions (e.g. senior researcher, team leader) in the field of
- market, media and opinion research,
- political public relations or political education in communications agencies and political organizations,
- media and political consulting,
- strategic planning in organizations and associations.

Admission requirements
Admission to the Master's degree program in Political Communication is open to anyone who has obtained a first professionally qualifying Bachelor's degree that
- (a) includes a communication science, sociology, political science or psychology course content amounting to at least 60 ECTS credits, and
- (b) methodological module content in quantitative research methods and/or statistics amounting to at least 20 ECTS credits,
- has an overall grade of 2.0 or better.
- Good knowledge of English and German is also required. All applicants must provide proof of English level B 2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by means of an internationally recognized certificate or at least six years of school attendance with a minimum grade of "sufficient" in the last school report.
- Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification must also generally provide proof of sufficient German language skills.
