Research and Publications
We conduct research primarily on the topics of sustainability and organisations, especially cultural organisations, as well as the Holocaust and violence. The focus is particularly on the research question of how social spaces that are less institutionalised are shaped, such as newly established cultural organisations like the Humboldt Forum in the Berlin Palace, or concentration camps and Jews' houses during the National Socialist era.
The field of sustainability and organisations is divided into two research directions: on the one hand, a multi-year research project is investigating the genesis of the Humboldt Forum organisation in the Berlin Palace, and on the other hand, the focus is on the question of how cultural organisations establish sustainability in their structures.
The field of Holocaust and violence is also divided into two research directions: one focus is on (organisational) sociological Holocaust research and the governance structures of the Holocaust. A second focus is on current phenomena in sociological research on violence.
A further, cross-thematic focus of the Chair is the adaptation and further development of qualitative research methods. Over the past three years, a particular focus has emerged on the grounded theory method.
